Origins
Liwa Festival was first established in 2003 to promote Emirati sports and preserve the cultural heritage of the region. Located in the heart of the Empty Quarter, Liwa Oasis is known for its stunning desert landscapes and rich history. The festival aims to foster a sense of community and pride among the local population while encouraging healthy competition and physical fitness.
Motor Sports
Before 2003, Emiratis had been racing their cars and bikes up the Moreeb dune, which was the opportunity to establish Liwa Sports Club for safer and more structured competitions. Some of these sports are UTV Motorsport racing, Liwa Freestyle Drift Season, UTV Race, Car stunt and Sand drag bike.
